    The script runs properly on my computer, downloading and compiling everything without any error, but I still dont have sound.
    My computer is a Macbook Pro 5,4 Summer 2009 with Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04

    The script runs properly on my computer. However, it seems that the driver isn't upgraded.

    When I checked with the command $ cat /proc/asound/version, it returned :
    Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.16.
    Compiled on Jul 25 2009 for kernel 2.6.24-24-generic (SMP).

    which means that it is still not upgraded. I double checked with the command $ wget -O alsa-info.sh http://alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh && bash ./alsa-info.sh, I got the following msg:

    !!ALSA Version
    !!------------

    Driver version: 1.0.16
    Library version: 1.0.20
    Utilities version: 1.0.20

    However, when I used the command $aplay --version, it returned with:

    aplay: version 1.0.20 by Jaroslav Kysela <perex@perex.cz>

    . Which alsa driver works in my notebook then?

    I also noticed that during configuring the 1.0.20 driver, the following msg appeared
    :

    The main problem is however not solved yet ... Still no sound.

    Anyone knows how to solve the problem?

    I'm trying to get sound via HDMI. Over the weekend I changed several settings without success.

    Hopefully someone can help me.

    There's no sound. Default Sound Card is changed to HDMI. Sound Preferences is set to HDA ATI HDMI (Alsa Mixer) - IEC958. I'm using Mythbuntu 9.04 (32bit). My Asus Pundit PC is connected to a Panasonic Plasma via HDMI Cable.

    I've tried the ALSA_LIBS export, but to no avail. Any suggestions?
    Answered my own question, if anyone else gets this, make sure you don't have Synaptic Package Manager open (that was, I believe, my mistake).
