Only one reboot right after the AlsaUpgrade is needed.

Thanks for the clarification, soundcheck! Will see if the script solves a non-working mic problem as it did others.
...
Woohoo! The mic works now on my generic HDA Intel. Thanks, soundcheck!

Hello forum!
Don't know what to do. No sound on my Medion MD 96500. snd-hda-intel will not load.
I think i tried everything i read in all forums around. No way, no sound!
I updated from 8.10 (anything was all right) to 9.04 (no sound at all).
When using the live cd oh 9.04 i hear sound out of the box.
Alsa update script will not install the new version.
What can i do?
Would be more than happy for help.

Yes i rebooted after upgrade and no, i didn't start the uxchecker before i upgrade.
Alsa Version ist still 1.0.18

"Note, the script does not work in case you have linux backports modules installed ( in my case I need it for the integrated network chip). The problem is that with backports installed, the kernel loads the driver from /lib/modules/<kernel modules number>/updates/alsa instead of the usual spot. So you need to copy the alsa-drivers there ( meaning the content of
/lib/modules/<kernel modules number>/kernel/sound) or sudo aptitude remove linux-backports-modules-<Ubunutu Distro>"
I have backport modules and i copied all files like above discribed, but i'm not sure if this is the right way.
Quick shot in the dark:
Did you also install the headers for the backports?
linux-headers-lbm-$KERNEL
I just installed the backports on top of my 1.0.20 installation. It seems to work.
So, I installed linux-headers-lbm-$KERNEL, but there are more problems then before!
I run the alsa schrip with -r (restore) -di, snap ... nothing.
"alsa-lib-1.0.20 not found" in the end of AlsaUpgrade script.
Shi......
So, it seems OK, but still: Alsa 1.0.18
I had a look at your logs. You seem to have a corrupted Alsa installation. No cards/devices an even /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base won't seem to be there.
There might be something else wrong on your system.
Restore the backup you've taken before you started the ALSA upgrade. And run the uxchecker prior to the upgrade.
Try also "lspci -vv" to see if your audio device is recognised at all.

It seems to be a general snd-hda-intel problem. Should i deinstall alsa?
Thanks so far for your help !
