Hi, I'm new to Ubuntu and these forums. I started out with installing Mplayer and codecs on my system [http://www.simplehelp.net/2007/07/27...es-in-ubuntu/].
Then I was able to see video on my rmvb files, but got the following error: "Could not open/initialize audio device -> no audio". At this point, I did not check whether or not other audio/video files were playing alright with Mplayer and/or Totem and/or rhythmbox. I referred to another thread on this forum to solve the audio problem for Mplayer [http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=587567]. As per the suggeston there, I set my default-card to "Intel", which was the only one listed by command:
> asoundconf list
My audio problem hasn't gone away on Mplayer; when I try to play music files in Rhythmbox, it says "Couldn't start playback (null)"; my Totem Movie Player program hangs on startup; all my system sounds and bells are silent too.
My sound card may be upset with me. Help me cheer it back to life.
