I have a Gateway GT5448E and that is not up there.

Also when I try to reload alsa it gives me this.

    Code:
    ganjafreak@ub3rl33tubuntu:~$ killall pulseaudio
    ganjafreak@ub3rl33tubuntu:~$ sudo alsa force-reload
    [sudo] password for ganjafreak:
lsof: WARNING: can't stat() fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon file system /home/ganjafreak/.gvfs
          Output information may be incomplete.
lsof: WARNING: can't stat() fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon file system /home/ganjafreak/.gvfs
          Output information may be incomplete.
Unloading ALSA sound driver modules: (none loaded).
Loading ALSA sound driver modules: (none to reload).
    ganjafreak@ub3rl33tubuntu:~$
I need someone to remote connect to me and work this out wtih me and when it's done I'll jot it down for further reference.

Does anyone know the model tag for a Toshiba Satellite A665? I went through this thread but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks in advance.

This worked on my Toshiba Satellite with Conexant 5069. Now I can mute the external and listen to music in privacy without disturbing anyone. And I did it after 3 days of searching. I defiantly refused to in back to Windows 7 just to watch movies and listen to music. Bless you hda-verb!

Tell us your exact settings so that we can see if those settings can be added to the Linux kernel so that in Ubuntu 10.10 it will work for you without a hitch.

    To do so,

    wget www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh -O alsa-info.sh && bash alsa-info.sh

When prompted, select to send the information to alsa-project.org. Finally, copy and paste here the URL you will be given.

    Re: snd_hda_intel options database

I'm using a Lenovo Thinkpad SL410k 28428VC with Arch Linux, and i suffered the same probem that the speaer is still work with headphone pluggined in.

I followed the instruction HdaIntelSoundHowto, and finally get it done.

    1. Run

    cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec
    I get

    Codec: Realtek ALC269
    Codec: Intel G45 DEVCTG
    2. Run

    lspci | grep -i audio
    I get

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)
    3. Run

    aplay -l
    I get

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC269 Analog [ALC269 Analog]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 3: INTEL HDMI 0 [INTEL HDMI 0]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
Above it is my hda audio information

So,i came to look at http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentat...dio-Models.txt to find something about ALC269,and i got this:

    basic Basic preset
    quanta Quanta FL1
    eeepc-p703 ASUS Eeepc P703 P900A
    eeepc-p901 ASUS Eeepc P901 S101
    fujitsu FSC Amilo
    lifebook Fujitsu Lifebook S6420
    auto auto-config reading BIOS (default)
    then,i tried adding
    options snd-hda-intel model=MODEL
    to my
    /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf
one by one,and it's luky that the model 'quanta' get worked.

so,hope this can help somebody. Now,with headphone plugined in,the speaker auto switch off, otherwise,it switch on.

This is nice. What's missing is the PCI ID for the soundcard. You need to 'lspci -n' to find the PCI ID.

Then, you can track in the Alsa source code and find the location where you can specify, for your PCI ID, that the quirk to enable is the 'quanta' quirk. In doing so, Ubuntu 10.10 will support your hardware out of the box. Also, other Linux users irrespective of distro will be able to use their same sound card.

Some hints on what you need to do, http://simos.info/blog/archives/984
If you manage to complete the task, it would be beneficial to report back.
