im quite a fan of ispell. its a command line tool, so it wont cause any problems to vim or any other editor.

I did find a workable spell checker inside vim ("SpellChecker"), and I also tried ispell from the command line. It worked pretty well (though I'll need to look into how I can use a larger dictionary, as I sometimes use arcane and archaic words).
