Adept broken; won't remove mythtv

I some how mucked up mythtv and now adept won't do install, upgrade or remove anything.

Adept posts this once remove has failed:

APT Error. Context:
Running dpkg,
[ /usr/bin/dpkg, --status-fd, 3, --force-depends, --force-remove-essential, --remove, mythtv ],
Sup-process returned error code 1,
Error processing mythtv : Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should.

and also fonts are tiny unless i sudo adept.

I can't do anything with adept, apt-get, etc...
