You can also press Alt-SysRq-k to kill X which should always work (if it doesn't your only choice would be to hold down the power button anyway).

For me, that combination only makes a screenshot, and I am default settings.

CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE should be left enabled since it is a very good shorctut. I can not see any reason to disable it.

I also need this combo since it is the easiest way to kill a hanging X
but i understand that some people tend to press that occasionally.
I think the first time I used this shortcut it was not on purpos lol

Why disable it? It would be a dumb idea.

This is Linux, not Mac or Windows. People need to understand that.

Personally, after a year using Linux, I never even knew about ctrl-alt-backspace... now it's a lifesaver to me.

Make it so you can disable it in the preferences menu somewhere. Do not disable it by default.

to properly describe my outrage at this idea would require words that cannot be used in this forum. and BTW the the workaround posted elsewhere ( add option "DontZap" "true" to xorg.conf ) dosent work for me and where is the promised gui to re-enable it ??? from the blueprint

The UI for Kubuntu is ready but won't be available until my "dontzap" package is uploaded. The UI for Ubuntu will be finished soon and you will also be able to enable or disable the option from the command line with something like this:
to enable

sudo dontzap -e

to disable

sudo dontzap -d
