So how will most new Jaunty users know about this new 'feature'? Most probably will not, unless they stumble upon it in some forum or read the documentation with a fine tooth comb. In effect, you will have broken something that was working for most users. An option to disable would be fine -- just don't disable it by default.

<flamebait>Disable it for ubuntu/gnome users, keep it enabled for kde/kubuntu users.</flamebait>

Seriously, isn't this dumbing down too much? It is bad enough that ctrl+alt+del won't reboot a machine any more, unless on a text console - but for ex-windows users that muscular memory was already compromised. But now disable ctrl-alt-backspace? Now what do I do to restart a hung desktop, press the reset button?
At least there still is ctrl-alt-sysreq...

hahaha! you people are amazing. ctrl-alt-backspace shouldn't be enabled by default. and if you need to use a restart button to exit a hanging X then you really don't have a clue.
ctr-alt-f1(2,3...6) brings you to the command line from which you can kill X(and any other app).
enabling it by default camouflages the real problem. X hanging. That should be fixed not beaten down with a stick (or 3 button combo).

Absolutely not. I have come to rely on it.

I find it's immensely useful, and have never once accidentally restarted the xserver, so I don't see any harm in having it enabled by default. Or if it is disabled, allow it to be re-enabled easily in a preferences windows.

Re: POLL: Do you want to have CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE disabled in Jaunty?

This is the worst idea ever. It's ridiculously unlikely that anyone is going to hit that combination by accident. Furthermore, any new user who does accidentally hit it is only going to do so once. Heaven forbid that they might learn something about Linux in the process.

Re: POLL: Do you want to have CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE disabled in Jaunty?

I can see it being possible to hit the wrong key, or even have keys stuck so that just pressing backspace will restart X.
I don't see why requiring ctrl-alt-backspace being held for 2 secs would be such a bad alternative.
Sure don't disable it, but make it less accident prone.

ctrl>alt>bkspc is a convient shortcut , yes we can bring up a term and do it from there but that is not the point . by your logic we should disable all shortcuts and mabye gnome/kde/etc too and just do everything from the terminal .
if it ain't broke you haven't tweaked it enough
