The Iphone is a fad. It will get old and something new will come along. The phone industry changes alot and Apple has had it's 15 minutes of fame.

With regard to the Pre. I heard Plam were having some financial difficulties. I don't doubt that the software is good but it's all Apple, HTC and Samsung these days. Sony Ericcson posted their second yearly loss today.

I was all for HTC but I'm having second thoughts now due to HTC's inability to ship units effectively...

Palm is bought out by HP
You came empty handed, that is how you shall leave. Whatever you claim as yours today, belonged to someone else yesterday, will be someone else's tomorrow.

You wouldn't have NEAR the amount of good smart phones currently if it wasn't for the iPhone. Competition is a good thing to those who are not blinded by branding.

Is it possible to get a dumb cellphone and a smart tablet and make them talk to each other?

It's a real question... I don't know much about the cell phone and data access stuff at all.
