The DSDT that overrides it is completely broken. The DSDT that we pull using the patch posted on that thread is slightly broken, too. It works, though. Unfortunately, the patch doesn't work on the Ubuntu kernel from git. I was hoping you guys could help us fix our DSDT table. (I'm running 10.04 right now, btw. But the problem is there on all Ubuntu versions (and every other non-windows OS, unfortunately...)

    Thanks guys!
I can't get yours to compile. It only gets worse. There is at least one fatal flaw, but with 12,000 lines of code, I will never find it. Have you tried updating your bios? It might help if you could send me a copy of your dmesg output.

Re: HOWTO Fix A Buggy DSDT File

The dsdt I sent you has no errors or warnings, but that may not mean that you still don't have problems caused by other things other than the dsdt. You can run
    Code:
    dmesg
in a terminal to see any boot or kernel errors. Just make sure to expand your terminal scroll memory in the terminal profile preferences, because this command spits out a lot of info and will cut some of it off. I would change it to something around 3000. I think the default is 512.

PS If you prefer a text file readout, just run
    Code:
    dmesg > dmesg
This will put all of the output into a file called dmesg into your home folder.

Re: HOWTO Fix A Buggy DSDT File

i outputed dmesg to dmesg file and i see custom dsdt is in use and
    Code:
BIOS _OSI(Linux) query honored via cmdline
    is also used.

Compiling done, if it worked, you have now a patched DSDT in dsdt.aml
If the compiling went wrong, you could force to build it with ./DSDT\ Patcher -f (try this DSDT at your own risk)

Re: HOWTO Fix A Buggy DSDT File

The "object does not exist" error is caused by either a custom built rig where the bios is looking for hardware that is no longer there and is rendered useless, or a fatally flawed dsdt file. Open a terminal and run
    Code:
    dmesg > dmesg
Then look at the new dmesg file in your home directory. If there are no fatal errors there, and all of your hardware works, then fixing the dsdt won't accomplish anything. The dsdt only tells the bios/OS the recommended config for your original hardware. With most modern OS's, the ability to configure hardware on the fly renders the dsdt almost useless anyway.

The reason I need fix it is because I am testing snow leopard on HP laptop.
