Re: HOWTO Fix A Buggy DSDT File

just a little difference.. ,but why different?

    12.673234] ACPI: Thermal Zone [THZN] (62 C) in 8.10
    11.733877] ACPI: Thermal Zone [THZN] (65 C) in 9.04

is the bios not being read by linux correctly?

look at the 2 attached dmesg from previous post.. if the opsys is reading wrong and not adjusting temp correctly.. is their a way to change thermal zones temp settings.. then fan may start functining at proper speed? maybe its a calculated temp. if its a calculated temp then maybe whatever the multiplier is, is incorrect or can be adjusted? anyone ?

Hey Shawn, are you already gone to OpenSUSE?

    Did you try KK?
Is the lack of DSDT support a final decision?

The first two lines seem to have made it's way into the file somehow ... they shouldn't be there.

Also - dsdt patch is no longer used, not sure how you intend to use it. And if your Laptop is overheating - I doubt DSDT will solve your problem.

Re: HOWTO Fix A Buggy DSDT File

This thread is far and away one of the best resources on the net for DSDT repair/hacking. Thank you to everyone who has participated thus far!

With all your advice, I've fixed my DSDT errors and many of the warnings. I'm down to just 13 warnings left... I would love any help, especially if the helper wouldn't mind explaining what they did. I've learned a lot about DSDT already and I'm always hungry for more...

Re: HOWTO Fix A Buggy DSDT File

i have had the same overheating problems since i got ubuntu 9.04 on this pc.. i checked the dsdt data.. 0 errors 0 warnings 15 optimizations.. after puting the dsdt file in and verifying it was correctly installed and putting in the acp_osi="Linux" still no love.. still the same.. except now no cpu throttling is listed in acpi.. ughhh.. and no fan on.. so still no colling.. however i did stumble on something that lowered my temps 10c.. i dont know if it will help but its real simple.. just try to hibernate.. on mine i have the ata1: softreset failed (device not ready) .. so even though it did successfully hibernate.. it went throught grub to start back up.. then i tried suspend and upon waking.. i tried to play moonlander.. normally it stated on grellm that im using up to 99% of both cpus alternating.. this time.. it was only using about 10% alternating. so i looked at the temp.. instead of 80c to 82c it was 68c to 70c.. so i looked at the acpi.. and it stated the fan was on.. the first time i have seen it on.. so it seems i have a workaround.. i hope this helps someone

Angry Re: HOWTO Fix A Buggy DSDT File

    hey all

my thinkpad t500 2089-2kg is extremly overheating under ubuntu. under windows xp everything is fine. I have been playing around with all sorts of fan and cpu tools for about a half a year now, but nothing helped...

would be really cool if you could take a look at my dsdt. I think its not such a big deal, because there are only warnings and no errors:

    Code:

Re: HOWTO Fix A Buggy DSDT File

    Hi 67GTA,

Sorry to bother you with another potential DSDT problem.
I'm not new to Linux and using Debian servers for years which run 24/7 with no need to suspend or hibernate.
Now I decided to install Ubuntu on my laptop and I'm running into suspend/hibernate problems.

I first installed 8.04 (Hardy Heron) and suspend seemed to work.
Then I decided to try 9.10 (Karmic) and suspend finishes without errors according to the log but returns with a black screen and absolutely no reaction to any keystroke.
The funny thing is that now the 8.04 installation which I kept on a different partition also ceased to return from suspend and shows the same effect as 9.10.
This brought me to the conclusion that something must have been changed in the BIOS during the installation process.

    Is this possible?

I can reproduce it by subsequently re-installing 8.04 (suspend works but not in 9.10) and 9.10 - suspend doesn't work in both installations.

I found a fixed DSDT in the DSDT repository, but this does only say fix a thermal problem and I didn't try it yet.
There was a note somewhere saying Ubuntu 9.10 doesn't provide the kernel patch to replace the DSDT anymore, so what can I do except filing a bug?

I've attached a tar with both my original DSDT (dsdt.dsl) and the fixed one.

I'd appreciate any advice and help.

    Regards
    Hans

Re: HOWTO Fix A Buggy DSDT File

    Hi,67GTA.
I tried 3 versions of Ubuntu and got a brightness issue with it which linked to my ACPI. I know this can be fixed via the DSDT Override but I failed to get rid of the annoying errors each time I compile. And tried the menu.lst way not working for me. Maybe you can have a check of my DSDT and ACPI info then get a clue. I did what you demonstrated of this thread and got all the ACPI info I could. Hope you can guide me through this mess. I also got the SSDTs of my BOard and need to inject it into the DSDT to get the SpeedStep function.
Here is my ACPI stuff pls take a look.

    Regards
