The UK's Linux Format magazine* has announced the winners of their 2008 Reader Awards, and Ubuntu Forums has scooped the prize for Best Support Resource, usurping Google who had previously dominated the category.
A warm congratulations to Ubuntu-Geek and the team! Of course, everyone who has contributed to making these forums such a success can also give themselves a pat on the back. ![]() * LXF115, released 8 January 2009 |

Re: Congratulations to Ubuntu Forums: LXF Award for Support
I can't seem to find a link unfortunately - seems they've only published the results in the magazine thus far. For those who are interested in the full results (runners-up in parentheses):
Best desktop app: Firefox (Amarok) Best distro: Ubuntu (OpenSUSE) Best development tool: GCC (Eclipse) Best hardware support: Intel (Nvidia) Free Software project of the year: KDE (Compiz) Embedded Linux award: Nokia (Trolltech) Best server software: Apache (OpenSSH) Best office software: OpenOffice.org (AbiWord) Best Linux game: Frozen Bubble (Tux Racer) Best internet software: Firefox (Konqueror, Thunderbird) Best support resource: Ubuntu Forums (Google) Best web host or ISP: 1&1 (UKFSN) Enterprise award: Canonical (Red Hat - also, Novell won the booby prize) Best geek gadget of the year: Asus Eee PC (Apple iPhone) Last edited by ajcham; January 10th, 2009 at 09:08 AM.. |

I would vote for nexuiz, enemy territory: quake wars, or x2: the threat.
I hate those boring, no action/shooting/killing casual games But they are popular so it isn't very strange frozen bubbles won the competition, I guess.

That is sweet! Do we have a link to an official resource with this information?

Re: Congratulations to Ubuntu Forums: LXF Award for Support
Yay, I love frozen bubble, especially since my ET:QW cd got a scratch (don't work) and my laptop doesn't run any 3D games. I'm surprised that ATI didn't make it on there, but that is probably because most people are ticked that their cards don't work when the driver is still developing. So far they've done good with the OSS driver though.
