Happy new year, happy new AMD 64bit 2core box , running XP Home as a music studio, and my old PIII 1GHz running Hardy HeronLST as a 'Netbox & office , with an ADSL connection. Deep Joy!!
However, tried to install BOINC, and it wouldn't download the file correctly, "unexpected end to file" was the gist of the error report. My box had a couple of hangs after that, had to use the on/off button to reboot.I stopped bothering with Boinc, & uninstalled it until I could get some advice
Now, I know better, but I installed StumbleUpon, & almost immediately it started slowing and hanging, again with the only option to hot reboot. I still had trouble downloading, with the same error rep. Uninstalled StumbleUpon, but after that it wouldn't run properly at all. It kept asking for a "fsck", which I did, but then lost the GUI altogether. Sod It!! Re-installed, all OK
Is there way round the Boinc problem, is it worth it on a PIII, & is StumbleUpon best left off my system?
