Why cant I "stream" Divx movies?

I run Ubuntu 8.10 and for some reason which I do not understand, I just cannot watch Divx movies on the Internet.I can watch Flash and Megavideo streams but not Divx? I have the Totem movie player as well as VLC player installed which does allow me to watch Divx from CD/Dvd but not direct streaming from the internet. What am I doing wrong? My browser is Firefox 3. Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

You could try installing the mplayer-mozilla -plugin (and uninstalling the totem-plugin if Firefox still tries to sue it to open those movies). Mplayer plugin seems to handle embedded movies a lot better than the totem plugin does.
