Cool Compiz Fusion "Animations" effect doesn't work on my KDE

    Hi,

I have installed Compiz on Ubuntu (8.10), and I found that every compiz effects worked.

However, now that I installed Kubuntu (8.10) ( so that my family wouldn't use Windows ) and tried the effects, I see that none of the "Animations" effects work on my Kubuntu.
They still do work on Ubuntu though.

    So what's the problem?

I'm not sure about this, but I think that compiz isn't meant to work on KDE. I have Ubuntu and installed Kubuntu and it doesn't work for me either.

Re: Compiz Fusion "Animations" effect doesn't work on my KDE

Have a poke around, I am on 8.10 with KDE4.2 and have compiz working only I cant remember what I did, it wasn't anything very radical or I wouldn't have done it. The only fail I have is I can't get the minimise animations to work, everything else seems OK. Sorry not very helpful just don't give up because it can be done.

Re: Compiz Fusion "Animations" effect doesn't work on my KDE

I also just went to KDE from Gnome
i have been reading around a bit, and although this seems like a fairly common issue, i wasnt able to get anywhere.

but i think it could be a simple Fix

in Gnome, right clicking the desktop, and clicking change background, would bring up the appearance preferences, then in the Visual Effects tab of this window you could check 'Custom Settings' which would allow compiz to work, instead of the default Gnome effects.

However in Kde i have not been able to find any options for enabling 'Custom Settings' or anything equivalent.
This might be irrelevant, but im going to look into it.

I am putting off uninstalling Gnome, until this is solved (Mostly to show off the cube to friends) =D

    ~EDIT
I just found a fix, In your package manager (i.e adept/synaptic/ or whatever you use)
    search for Compiz Gnome Manager,
Once this is installed you can open Gl Desktop in your 'Settings' (in the k-menu of course)
    then just check the box.
If you already have compiz installed the animations should automaticly work, But you may have to restart.

Additional Note --- Its probally just me, but i had to close my browser, and a few other programs before GL desktop would open. (NOT due to computer specs)

I found this solution here, if you need more details

    ~EDIT2
After a while using compiz on KDE, it seems to work great.
just remember you may have to re-enable GL desktop every reboot,
wish i could find a fix for that to =(

Make sure you have compiz-fusion-plugins-extra package installed.
