    Music Programs for Education

I write a monthly newsletter and one of my readers asked for software that would be helpful to teach kids music. Of course, I know about software that plays music - but does anyone have suggestions about FOSS that would help teach music?

The only one that I can think of off the top of my head is TuxGuitar. It is a Guitar tab editor and player that should prove useful for people learning to play guitar.

There is a lot out there. Here are some I'm familiar with.
    Solfege for ear training
    Rosegarden for midi/sequencing/basic notation
Lilypond for high quality notation (works well with Rosegarden)
    Audacity for basic audio work.

there are a lot more. Check out UbuntuStudio if you have a computer with nothing better to do.

    Re: Music Programs for Education

Funny, I am on the other side - I am the music teacher and our sys. admin. Currently we are using Windows, but will be migating to linux (edubuntu) over the summer. I would love to find some programs to help me reinforce note-reading, rhythm, composition, etc.

Lilypond/rosegarden are good. I will check out others mentioned here and hope that there is more input out there.
