Can you use a non-jailbroken iPod Touch on ubuntu?

i got an ipod touch for christmas and i can't get rhythmbox, amarok, or gtkpod to see it. i've seen guides to getting amarok to work with the touch, even wirelessly, but i don't want to jailbreak my ipod. is there a way i can make this work with a non-jailbroken ipod touch?

As far as I know you can't sync the 2nd generation iPod touch without iTunes. Hopefully this will change in the near future. What I've been doing with mine is syncing it using a windows virtual machine in virtualbox with ubuntu as the host.
