What other cli apps should I recommend besides these?

I'm helping 3 people install Ubuntu today and one of them would like a total command line environment - she's used to the way things are done all in cli at her work.

So far I have found the following apps:
    Bash - shell
    MC - file manager
    Calcurse - calendar/todo app
    Abook - addressbook
    elinks - web browser
    mutt - email client
    irssi - irc client
    finch - IM client
    newsbeuter - rss feed reader

All if this will be running in screen on tty1, she won't be using xorg at all.

What other cli apps should I recommend?

Personally, I like zsh for the shell instead of bash, and lynx for the web browser or elinks.

I guess she probably needs some sort of writing app... what better than vim? Then she should probably learn troff/groff for formatting.

Hmm, what else... there are some console media players, you could check those out. I forget what they are called though
    Desktop: AMD Athlon64 X2 3600+, Nvidia 8600GT, 3GB RAM, 80GB hd, Windows 7 Beta
    Lappy: Sony Vaio FW-140E, Intel P8400 2.26Ghz, 3GB Ram, 250GB HD, Intel x4500MHD, Windows 7 Beta & Kubuntu 8.10 w/ KDE 4.2

For picture editing, the cli tools in the imagemagick package are great.

Yeah, I replace vim-tiny with vim, I've never liked the "tiny" version. Good suggestion, I need to find a cli mp3 player and possibly others.

Yeah, I was looking at gpm, I'll install that.

dpkg -- Package manager (and/or aptitude)
    slrn -- Usenet client
another vote for zsh -- Highly configurable shell environment
nano -- Easy to use editor

More goodies, this is why the Ubuntu community is so cool
Good point, she might like nano better than vim. I'll install both and let her decide.
