PCMCIA (PC CARD) ESATA on Compaq Armada E500 Laptop

I am looking to install Xubuntu on a E500 laptop, it has 500Mhz CPU & 512MB of ram. I'd like to hook up a couple esata drives and was looking at the those available at Newegg:

    Okgear

    Rosewill RC-604

    Vantec UGT

    IOGEAR GPS702

Does anyone have any exeperience with any of these or believe one would be more compatible with Xubuntu?

    Thanks in Advance

The only diffference in the various releases of Ubuntu is the desktop manager. If things work in one version, they will work with other versions. THe configuration options will be different between Xubuntu, Kubuntu and Ubuntu, but other wise there is not difference.

I use kernel 2.6.27-11 when running Intrepid, hot plugging eSata works, with kernel 2.6.28-3 hot plugging doesn't work unless a usb device of some sort is plugged in.
