When you first run the client on a box you have the option to specify a team; if you need ammend any of the details you first entered then start the client with the -config switch. For example from the directory you run your client from type:
./FAH502-Linux.exe -config
I have it installed on my parents' 2.6GHz PIV.
Btw, when I switched from team ubuntuforums to team ubuntu, I reinstalled it in /opt
with the scripts supplied on the wiki page, and i wonder: does it run for all users now?
If not, is there a way to make it run no matter which user is logged in, but only run
one instance (as it should) when multiple users are logged in?
Don't peach linux. Melon it!
I've got my P4 2.4 HT at home running 2 clients. I have a small P3 700 at home, and my Pentium M laptop here at work when I'm gone. I had had my two unused P4 laptops at work running for a while, but it was a hassle because I only have one net connection here in the office and had to keep moving the cable around to upload work units. Now that I feel the heat, I've got them plugged in in another office so they don't require maintenance. That's two more P4 cores. I should be rocking.
Oh, and by the by. On Windows, the client is set up to run super-nice and not interfere at all with what you're doing. On Linux, I don't know what the deal is. It does seem to slow down my UI a bit when I have my folding clients running on my box at home, so I started running them with "nice" and it seems to make it more responsive. Something you might try if your box is feeling sluggish while you're folding in the background.
Code:nice ./FAH5*
How do you set the number of cpu clocks? I have a compact machine and I can't afford a ten degree rise in temp (if it will even run reliably at 100% workload - frankly I'm not sure). I'd like to restrict it to 50% core but that question never came up when I ran -config an selected to set the "advanced options."
Hmm... that comes up as an option for me when I run with -config. I think it's "request x percentage of cpu" or something.
Is there an advantage to running 2 clients on one CPU?Originally Posted by nbcthreat

Well, there's some debate on the subject. But the tweaking article I link to at the beginning of the thread and in the wiki suggests that running two clients on a hyperthreading chip will accomplish more points per hour overall. Check out hyperthreading on wikipedia.Originally Posted by Swab
