is it possible to convert my Ubuntu desktop to UbuntU server?
Hi guys....
I am having a doubt....
is it possible to convert Ubuntu desktop 8.10 to Ubuntu server 8.10??
Kindly guide me.....
I am using Visat Home premium and Ubuntu 8.10 as dual boot....

As was said previously there isn't much of a difference between the two, different kernel, and no gui on the server edition.
Really you just need to install whatever service it is you intend on serving to turn your desktop into a server.

U mean....I can use package manager to make it supportable to server ??
I am not able to wait fr Ubuntu server edition...as I need this for my project now...its not possible to wait fr somedays and unable to download from net......

Well yes, if say you wanted a ssh server all you need to do is install the openssh-server package and your computer is now a ssh server. If you wanted a file server for Windows Computers install the samba package. You don't need the server edition installed to run a server.
