Question Is there a linux version of this hard drive restore script?

    Hi all,

I need to completely wipe a hard drive, get rid of any partitions and restore it to out of the box state.

I am having problems installing Ubuntu 8.10, when I install and choose use full disk guided the creating of the partition stops at 5% and I get an error below. I've been messing around with removing and installing different distros so I imagine I've messed something up.

The ext3 file system creation in partition #1 of SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda) failed.

When I had a windows machine I used to use the script on site below which booted into dos, typed some assembly language type stuff and completely wiped the drive. Does anyone know if there is anything similar on Linux?

    Cheers

you can use a livecd called parted magic, that's what I use for all my partitioning tasks. Heres the link http://partedmagic.com/
