    Question Headphone issues

    Hi
I've finally dumped windows and am running Ubuntu 8.10 on my sony vaio vgn-n38zw. I'm really pleased with it so far, it's improved the overall performance of the machine loads.

Soon I'll switch the other machines over too.

I'm still very new to linux though and I'm having problems with my headphones. under windows they cut the speakers out when you plugged them in.
Now they work but the speakers still carry on playing.

If i open the Realtec ALC262 mixer i can use the PCM2 sliders to mute the head phones only, but I cant work it the other way round.

    Any Ideas would be appriecated.

I'd rather not have to compile anything, I'm not quite there yet.

    Re: Headphone issues

Sorry I can't really help, but I have the same problem on my desktops (speakers continue to play when my headphones are plugged into the front). But, since it has external speakers, I just turn them off. It seems a lot of people have similar issues, a search of these forums alone will turn up a number of threads (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=687846 for example), not to mention bug reports and other linux related forums...
