Even though I eventually got the Broadcom BCM4306 (Rev. 02) 802.11b/g Wireless LAN (Broadcom BCM94306MP) PCI-mini wireless card to work on my laptop (Gateway M350WVN) running Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex v8.10 and was connecting at 53%, I purchased and installed the following PCI-mini card:

Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG [Calexico2] 802.11g Network Connection (rev 05)

Now I am connecting at 86% and with faster downloads, and Ubuntu recognized the card without any configuration on my part.

Bye, Bye, Broadcom! What a royal PAIN you have been.

I purchased the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG card via Amazon. $19.77 + $4.99 S/H = $24.76

Happy sailing!
