    Network Applications

    1. Does installing these appz: Nessus, Umit, Wireshark, Ettercap, Etterape, Zenmap or any network monitor/scanner/logger, poses a risk to a desktop user? I haven't installed any yet.

    2. If it doesn't which one is the best for the purpose of understanding what your network is up to? I need to know more than just thinking that linux is not vulnerable to the dangers of using the Internet because I might go overly relax on security breaches.

    3. Does Iptables has a gui for easy config?

    Re: Network Applications

none of these pose a security risk.i personally use all the software u mentioned.
1.wireshark is a very good tool for analysing network packets

2.ettercap is for sniffing, although it can do many other things

3.etterrape is rather very interesting it shows all the hosts in the network up to which it can reach ,its display is wonderful.

n i think these r best for ur purpose
