    8.10 dual boot problem

    Hi

I've got a dual boot PC. My hard disk is 80 GB and, originally I had Windows XP in the first 26.54GB, with Hardy Heron in the rest. My attempt to upgrade Hardy Heron to 8.10 didn't go too well - I can't start X Windows - so I'd like to do a complete re-install on the Linux partition. I was hoping the installer would recognize my Windows and Linux partitions, and offer my the option of simply installing over the existing 8.10 installation. When I try installing, this is what I get:

    Prepare disk space

How do you want to partition the disk?

    Before: /dev/sda1 34% /dev/sda2 1% /dev/sda3 63% free space 0%

    After Ubuntu 8.10 100%

Guided - use entire disk - selected

    SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda) - 82.0 GB ATA Maxtor 6Y080L0

Guided - use the largest continuous free space - not selected

    Manual - not selected

I'm not sure what to do, and I don't want to lose my XP installation.

    All advice much appreciated.

    Roger D

looks like sda2 is /swap and sda3 is /. So choose 'Manual' partitioning, highlight sda3 and click 'edit', change mount to '/'. Check 'format' box for sda3
