    ?!
Hi, to answer this, first - i take it you are running conky from the command line?? Otherise, you wouldn't see these messages...

Second, the errors are not fatal errors. They are notifications & perhaps a warning only (if not set up as per the enclosed script) but not fatal errors. So, they shouldn't stop it from working.

Are you using gnome?? Also, are you waiting for ubuntu to fully start before running?? Last, is it just that conky is there but hard to see (you have a black background, or are running other things which are putting conky behind the background??)

If something else is minimizing conky or putting it behind the background, you could use "wmctrl" (a program you will have to install via synaptic) or devilspie to put the focus back onto conky.

    Install wmctrl and put this:

    Code:
    ${execi 30 wmctrl -a conky}
into your .conkyrc file somewhere as a command to keep pulling conky to the front every 30 seconds if the focus is being lost.

that is just what conky does. It would be nice if you could put icons, etc. over conky but it doesn't allow that unfortunately. It's really just like an application window, which has had the title, scroll bar, and all other decorations etc. stripped off.
    Hi,

Thank you for that. I haven't visited this thread in a while. I'm a little adept with conky now but I haven't tried to write a config from scratch. I tried conky colors. It is flawless. But when I moved it to the top-left of my screen and edited some stuff below TEXT so that it displays horizontally it started flickering. Any advice on this?

Hey guys, I can't get Conky to install correctly. Basically, I try to install, said it already is, I try to run it, and it says it isn't installed...

I attached a screenshot of the terminal.

Anyone got an idea of whats wrong?

Re: Howto: setup Conky in Hardy and Ibex

    Can I make a suggestion?

To add to what you have in the guide, it may be worthwhile explaining how to compile conky with certain features enabled

For example I used to use xmms2 (music daemon not gui) and found this thread useful as it explained how to compile conky with xmms2 support much like the default mpd support: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=706736

There are a few features you don't get by default with the apt package...that users might find helpful

Thanks so much for the "How-To". Everything worked great!

As can be seen in the screen shot, I got Conky to work, but it just looks too plain. I'd like to add a weather script and a calendar, but I'm just clueless on what I need to do. Any assistance with this will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi pemur1,

You can find some great scripts here: Kaivalagi's Python Scripts of which one is Conky Weather Forecast Python Script.

What kind of calendar are you looking for?

    Have a nice day.

Yeah, I've been checking those out. I got the weather script to work and was working on the calendar, but I couldn't get the days/dates to line up correctly. I'm gonna take another look at it when I get home.

I am finding this thing getting somewhat addictive.
