Help rebuild kernel. Pretty please :)

I have VMWare server installed, recently installed a few updates through apt including GCC and new kernel. Now VMWare won't run and says that it needs to recompile some modules. Unfortunately VMware's modules won't build due to a GCC incompatibility or something along these lines anyway....

compiler as one used for building your kernel. Do you want to go with compiler 
"/usr/bin/gcc" version "4.2.4" anyway? [no] y

So if someone could tell me how to rebuild my kernel using GCC 4.2.4 or point me in the right direction if I don't need to mess with the kernel that would be just great!

Try setting the gcc version, see this link for how to do this-

but use apt-get install gcc-4.2.3
