    [SOLVED] How to Install Codec?

    What's up?
How do you install codec for DivX Player on Linux?
I installed DivX Player through Wine, since it has no Linux version. After installing, I found out that it has a codec for Linux. So, I downloaded it.
But then came the daunting question: How to install it?
I only see a folder and double-clicking the "install.sh" file only brings our a gedit window with text.

What do I do? Any helpful advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks for your time.

    Take care,

Go to applications->add/remove, then type in "divx" in the search box. The first entry that appears should be the Gstreamer ffmped video plugin which should install a divx codec.

Alternatively you can install VLC which comes with support for pretty much everything out of the box - i dont know if this includes divx but i imagine it does.

as said vlc and mplayer will play divx files automatically.

if you try to play the file in totem movie player you should be promted to dl the codecs automatically.

    Hi there,

I'll probably be repeating myself, but as suggested, VLC is the blast. Besides, you may want to read this thread:
