I'm clicking install but it won't pop up.

Alright, about a week ago my computer crashed with Windows XP on it. Since then i've been trying to fix it. I'm not actually sure what happened to it really, But for some reason when i try to install another operating system it won't actually work. I've tried 3 unbuntu discs, 1 windows xp disc, and just recently a Xubuntu disc. I tried "Check disk for defects" it always shows up with 1 error but it don't actually tell me the error so i can't tell you guys the error for some reason :S. Is there a way to install it without having to click install

BTW. My first boot on the Xubuntu disk showed a crashed icon up in the corner but nothing will open so i couldn't check the problem.

Before trying to install another OS you should try to find out why XP crashed. Have you verified that the hard drive is good? Go to your hard drives manufacturers web site and download thier diagnostic tools and check your hard drive.

Sounds to me like a hardware problem.
I would start with doing a memory test or if you have more than 1 memory stick and have enough memory I would removed one and see what happens and if it still doesn't work I would replace the one you remove and take the other out and try again.

Alright i finally got an error, hopefully you guys/girls can tell me what it means.

(random numbers) ACPI: aborted because junk in compressed archive
(random numbers) crc error
(random numbers) kernal panic - not syncing : VFS: Unable to mount root fs unknown-block(8,1)

Does anyone know what this means?

BTW. I tried 4 different hard drives. Is it the motherboard?

just tried my other drive. It worked the first time i was actually able to open up the install program. but it froze so i had to reset and gave me same error as previous posts.

i wont be able to reply till tomorrow so if anyone can still help me it will be appreciated thanks.
