    youtube-dl
youtube-dl is a small command-line program to download videos from YouTube.com.
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install youtube-dl
You can also find it in synaptic.

wow I just got youtube-dl and it's really really good. Totally simple, fast and easy.

    you just do:

    Code:
    youtube-dl linktosomeyoutubevideo
    and you've got it.

I have tried a lot of crappy firefox add-ons.

You can also use a website such as http://downloadyoutubevideos.com/ - then you don't have to install any software on your computer.

As you watch the video, watch the little bar underneath it fill up. When it is full, the video will be in your /tmp directory. Copy it from there to wherever you like.

Exactly. I don't see the point in installing heavy firefox addons or apps when you can do it in the terminal with one simple command.
