Cannot get sound?

I have been using Ubuntu without a problem for several months now, but a few days ago, my computer stopped playing sound. I can't listen to music, hear YouTube videos or anything. I was messing with the preferences in Audacity, so that might of been the cause, but I can't get it back. Can anyone help?

have you looked in system > preferences > sound

playback devices should be set to "autodetect"

also, double click on the volume/speaker icon in the top panel and check that all the sliders are turned up and none are muted.

Same for me too...From the past three days or so I am unable to play music.....First I thought there is some problem with my speakers and tried using head phones.......still it doesnt work.....strage....

No, everything's set to auto detect, volume is all on full, but still no sound.

Anyone got any other suggestions?
