save energy while using the battery: metacity

i noticed that the battery with compiz available lasts half the time if compared with compiz disabled.
i then created a "metacity --replace" app on the desktop.
i did that since i use compiz (on eeePC) with every effects disabled. i find it useful only for windows speed.
In case i disable compiz from the screen settings and then reenable it with normal effects, i loose my custom minimal configuration.
by just running "metacity --replace" i keep my settings at reboot (or by running "compiz --replace")

really? thats cool to know - the only compiz effects i actually use are the scale one-for switching active windows, and the opacity sometimes.

also, theres a package in synaptic called 'fusion-icon' which provides an applet in the task-bar notification area which allows for fast and easy switching between compiz and metacity!

is there a way to get the scale function without using compiz i wonder?
