you could install from the iso on harddisk. No need for floppy or cd.

Many linux now have that including antiX plug plug

Yes, but it would be hard to get the ISO onto the hard drive. The laptop does not have an ethernet port, so the only option would be through a USB drive, which would take a very long time. Right now, I'm having fun just messing around with it. Thanks for the suggestion though

FreeDOS can have a GUI in the form of OpenGEM. I'd be interested to hear from anyone with this setup. In fact, even though there is a little customisation required, I think I will add this to the list.

I have tried a few of these on my Sony Vaio FX150K and all of them get me to the same point, they install...maybe... and then once they boot up the first time, Black screen...I don't know what it is about the hardware in this thing obviously video/resolution related but my last hope is to try DSL and hope for a miracle.

FreeDOS has a lot of freeware games that run on it to. So if you can't use your computer for anything else, at least you can play Yahtzee.

    Antica..

Where could I do that at? Sorry I'm new to this, but I cant see anything after install, and most of them won't even install to begin with, I really was hoping to get AntiX on here but its proving very difficult on this hardware, and disabling acpi and whatnot just means it basically becomes a desktop and not a laptop as the power management won't be there I assume?

I don't want to hijack this thread, but post on the antiX forum or the MepisLovers forum (google will get you there).

Re: Operating systems for really, really old computers

I have a friend with a truly ancient laptop. It's an IBM ThinkPad 760XL 9547. It has a Pentium I processor, 64mb of RAM, and a dinky 2gb HDD. I'm begging him to replace the ******* 98 that it has on it, so I need to know what the best choice of Linux distro would be for it.
    Any ideas?
