    Yep, that was my case so intalled linux-386 and the new kernel runs fine

    I'm hoping i can get some help.

    I'm pretty sure that there is something minor i have missed out on.

    very quickly, i can see picture on my TV:
    1)as ubuntu shuts down (unloading modules)
    2)through the whole boot process (including grub) - ends when x starts
    3)in windows with minimal effort (sadly)

    ..i am using a cable which is s-video on the end plugged into my computer, and RCA on the end in the TV (i assume this is a composite cable?).

    ..i can log in to ubuntu fine. when the plug is connected, i can move the cursor off my computer screen, but i can not see any picture at all on the TV.

    ..i am in australia and i am pretty sure we use PAL, so i left that section of the howto unchanged.

    i also tried 800x600 along with the original resolution suggested in the howto. my tv is about 8 yrs old and on the back it says 50 HZ so i changed the TV mode to _50 (after 60 failed). No joy at this stage.


    i will complete the post in a new thread as my xorg.0.log is apparently too long.

    The TV image is trembling whith th PAL-G setting. To have a stable image I use PAL.
    And I have to use the SVIDEO output methode.

    All are ok now, hmmm almost...
    I use Kde 3.5.3, and on the desk of my primary screen, i cannot take a windows to the tv screen... When I drop a window to the right after the border limit, the window go to the left border limit...
    The same append to the up, left, down... so no windows can be droped to the TV like in Windows XP...
    The Tv is not suitable to launch windows directly in the tv screen, because it is not easily readable...

    Well, after unsucessfully trying to get my laptop (FX5600Go & S-VIDEO) to work with my tv following this HOW TO, I came up with this config, which actualy did what I wanted! I use the TV to see some movies (no DVD player, so I use the laptop), and this is how I got it to work:

    First make sure you have nvidia drivers installed...

    edit your xorg.conf
    $ sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

    find where it says:

    Section "Device"
    Identifier "NVIDIA Corporation NV31M [GeForce FX Go5600]"
    Driver "nvidia"

    and make it like:

    This should work with composite or SVIDEO, since it should be managed by the drivers
