Re: Looking to form a Texas LoCo team

I'm still doing all my E-Business on a mobile platform otherwise , I'd jump right in. But it's still awhile off before I settle down and will be able to work on a true workstation with a highspeed connection but as soon as that happens , I'll be willing to work my tail off to help the Texas team.

Re: Looking to form a Texas LoCo team

The San Antonio, TX Linux Users Group, A.K.A. SATLUG has a good group.
www.satlug.org/

They will have a booth at the Computer Show at Live Oak on Nov. 14th. They use mostly Ubuntu and Puppy. I'm a vendor there, and got my CD's from them.

I haven't encountered many folks in Houston that even know Linux exists.

There is a Houston regional team which you may want to check out: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HoustonTeam

Re: Looking to form a Texas LoCo team

Age is no barrier to participating in Loco Teams and Ubuntu. Many meeting and event locations are chosen to be friendly to all ages. If you happen to be in Dallas the week of Nov. 16 - 20, UDS is a great way to get a feel for the project and see how the releases are developed. We are trying to coordinate a planning meeting during that week, please subscribe this blueprint if you want to be notified of the location and time:

https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.ne...m-organization

and this bug also some more info on the effort.

https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/texasteam/+bug/475646

If anyone wants to step up and help lead the organizational efforts that would be awesome! What's needed is someone with time and organizational skills - age is not a factor but the team needs to be able to count on you to answer emails, update wikis, lead IRC sessions and be admin on the various Team resources.

Thanks!

Seems like things are finally getting started. I am glad there is still interest. I didn't realize there was anyone else in Galveston that has even heard of Linux or Ubuntu. Very exciting! Maybe others will come out of the cracks down here in Galveston.

Wherever we set up we will try to get the biggest audience by IRC or simple chat

Good idea.

I think our first order of business is making sure that Texas has at least one town to choose from when choosing the time zone during installation.
