Looks like you should be all set - did you try pushing the button on the comp?

yea i did i hit the "fn" key plus f2 which its alternate function is to enable wireless and the light will not come on.

This is the only problem i have with ubuntu at all. i can get all the programs i need to install smoothly and everything is there for me. Lol but when it comes to trying to get my wireless to work it seems i am SOL sometimes. Only thing i have needed help on.

Anything else i should try. ?

    Sure.

    Code:
    sudo rmmod bcm4318
    sudo rmmod ndiswrapper
    sudo ndiswrapper -l
    sudo ndiswrapper -m
    sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
    sudo iwlist scan
    sudo uname -a
    and post the results, please.
obviously, if the light comes on, you don't need to post the results.

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

So I finally got it working... except that I didn't do it using Ubuntu I downloaded Linux Mint Bea http://lt.k1011.nutime.de/ which is 98% Ubuntu anyway. Then I proceeded to follow the instructions here: http://lt.k1011.nutime.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=458 . While I realize that these instructions will not work in Ubuntu as they are written, since Ubuntu doesn't have a System->Administration->Windows Wireless Drivers. Perhaps someone with more technical knowledge than I have will be able to figure out why it works and make it work for Ubuntu as well. Also I think prior to following the steps I had done a sudo rmmod bcm43xx, don't know if that'll need to be done as well.

BTW this works simply running from the live cd for me, thus no need to actually install MINT to find out if it'll work for you if you'd like to try Mint.

I used the drivers from: ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp3...00/sp33008.exe and extracted them with cabextract my card worked with the bcmwl5.inf driver from that file.

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

the "Windows Wireless Drivers" is the "ndisgtk" package which you can install in synaptic.
Impossible is nothing but a word.

it worked .. Thank you very much. I tried that before and it never worked. lol. But i guess something kicked in this time. the light doesnt stay solid but it blinks as it sends packets.. so its good now strength is 100%. lol.

It scanned the network it found it i switched it to connect to eth1 and it went perfectly.

    thank you again.

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

Thanks. Its no longer working for me anyway. The native driver is touchy with this card, so back to ndiswrapper it is... hopefully I can get it working.

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

And two mins later, its working. I would suggest to anyone having issues to see if they resolve by using the 32 bit version of Ubuntu rather than the 64.

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

Wait wait - question. Are you using the 32bit or the 64bit? And native or ndiswrapper?

If you are using 64bit with native, may I have a copy of the drivers you used? I'd like to use native as well, that is the only way to do packet sniffing...
