    Re: Install Google Earth

    Hi
I'm really new to Linux. I am trying to install Google earth. I went to Applications-accessories-terminal and I pasted

    wget http://dl.google.com/earth/GE4/GoogleEarthLinux.bin
    sh GoogleEarthLinux.bin

It wouldn't install it saying "Can't open google earth bin"

    Now what do I do?

    Thanks
    Ottawajoe

    Re: Install Google Earth

Google seems to have changed the location of the Google Earth binary. Is there any reason why you're not installing it from the Medibuntu repository? (www.medibuntu.org).
I try to treat the cause, not the symptom. I avoid the terminal in instructions, unless it's easier or necessary. My instructions will work within the Ubuntu system, instead of breaking or subverting it. Those are the three guarantees to the helpee.

    Re: Install Google Earth

Well, I almost got Google Earth up and running, but, I get this error during installation.

    wrong ELF class.

Apparently, GE is 32bit and my laptop is 64bit. I saw somewhere, and now can't find it, that it is possible to tell Ubuntu to run GE in 32bit mode, or something like that. Anybody know how to do that?

I already renamed the file that causes problems too (libcrypto) and of course, that did not solve the entire problem. It helped, because before GE shut down. Now it stays open, but the graphics are all bad.

    Thanks,

    Jim

    Re: Install Google Earth

After some confusion, have google earth 5 up and running.

The first thing that helped, apparently, was removing the libcrypto* file from the google-earth directory. The second thing that helped, was setting the screen to "no effects" in linux.

But now, the text within the google earth window (not the menu bar) are bad. Some letters only show a sort of blurred area, others look fine. But, that means that text is unreadable. So, still have a problem!

    Cheers.

    Re: Install Google Earth

Google Earth looks pretty psychedelic on my system since it seems to apply textures at random (although this could be an issue with the latest Intel drivers)

    Re: Install Google Earth

Jaunty includes latest vesion 5 of GE so there is no need to install it via the script. Also for Intel cards, just set effects to none in appearance and turn of atmosphere in view setting of GE and it works out fine, I have tested it with G31 on Jaunty x64 and its smooth and fast.

    Re: Install Google Earth

On the same computer i have both hardy 32 bit and hardy 64 bit.
While on hardy 32 bit GE functions regulary on 64 bit if gives me a Segmentation fault....

    I tried to install from
    Google
    medibuntu
    googleearth-package

always segmentation fault at very start.

Any idea on how to trace this error?
    Has GE some log file?

    Thanks

Works for me... I used the following commands:

    Code:
    wget http://dl.google.com/earth/client/ge4/release_4_3/googleearth-linux-plus-4.3.7284.3916.bin

    sh googleearth-linux-plus-4.3.7284.3916.bin
