Factory reset equivalent? complete reset wanted

I have always wanted to be able to press a button to reset all drivers, settings, configuration files and other things when i am having problems i just cant fix!

does this exist or do i have to do a complete re-install?

Sadly, there is no reset. You must reinstall.

Something I do to save myself time with this is using a program called Partimage to create an image file of my Ubuntu partition, which I then restore when I mess something up. It takes about 7-8 minutes to do a restore that way.

I agree: short of making a full backup when your system is working how you like it, and restoring it as required, sometimes it's easier - if somewhat time consuming - to do a fresh install.

How about a master reset for at least GNOME? Is there a way? I'm having some problems after upgrading to Intrepid. I was thinking maybe it was caused by old Hardy configurations or something.

I was having a problem with my "Close and Minimize" bar disappearing. Try this article, I haven't personally tried it, but it has all positive reviews.
