    Nice howto

There's just one thing bugging me. Is there no way to get it to work fullscreen?

Re: HOWTO: Compile VICE in Dapper and Edgy

I'll have to check up on that. I don't believe it will jump to true fullscreen, but I haven't really tried. You might look over the VICE home page and see if it's mentioned in their documentation.

Re: HOWTO: Compile VICE in Dapper and Edgy

Thank you very much for this information! I compiled and installed VICE 1.20 with no problems.

I'm using Ubuntu (GNOME), so I used ./configure --enable-gnomeui as listed above.

At first, I had issues with sound -- the sound wasn't keeping up and seemed to be missing voices. I fixed that by changing two settings on the Settings>Sound settings menu:

    Sound device name: esd
    Suspend time: 1 sec suspend

I left all other sound settings at their default values. These changes seem to have fixed the problem!

Cool! I'm glad you liked it. I have had some problems with sound emulation too, and they seemed linked to the speed of the processor, curiously.

I don't remember enough to say exactly what settings I changed, but I think yours will probably do the trick. Thanks!

Re: HOWTO: Compile VICE in Dapper and Edgy

May I add that it emulates the whole peripheral of Comodores including the the C16/Plus 4 emulator as well!!!

Going to go back and play Treasure Island and Fire Ant!!

    Also ......

    Code:
    ./configure
    make
    checkinstall

Also .... initally after installing the deb package i tried to run and got a can not find /user*** (cant quite remember ). I uninstalled. When I tried installing again it worked. Not sure if a reboot / reinstall worked but thought it was worth my two pence.

Also .... I could not get this to compiler with gnonme gui.

    Thanks

You're right! I forgot to mention that. So all you VIC-20 and C-128 fans can join in the fun.

That's actually a really good idea. When I first wrote the howto I thought I should stick to configure-make-sudo make install because it might seem familiar to someone who was new to Linux. But to be honest, I think checkinstall is a better way of doing things. Thanks!

    No Probs!!

Trying to find a way to reconfiogure the keys so I can use my X-Arcade Joystics!!

Any ideas anyone? I did the key dump but that did not produce anything intuitive. Think I might have to go and Read The Functional Manual.....
