Is it possible to roll back from 8.04 to 7.10 without nuking my ubuntu partition?

In a word, no. Unless, you know Linux inside out, I would strongly recommend against even attempting it.
Ha ha ha.
I asked myself the same question.
Hardy has a few months of updates to go before being a usable release.
For a mission-critical PC, don't do an upgrade to Hardy unless you have some time to work out new tweaks. Believe, me, productivity will suffer.
That is the problem of a strict 6 month release schedule.
I would not recommend an upgrade from Gutsy just yet.
I also re-installed Gutsy on a few computers, because I had already solved the hardware glitches, which I haven't completely solved in Hardy.
Wish I'd read this before upgrading.
Thankfully I've got a dual boot config - happily running Vista for critical tasks, Ubuntu for messing about.
Upgrade from 7.10 to 8.04 has knocked out my sound and left me with no decent graphics support.
Wireless works out-the-box, but overall it's a backward step.
And FF3... what a crock.
Guys, if you're going to stick to this 6 monthly release cycle, you've got to include a rollback facility in future releases!
