Evolution password and keyring - please help me stop the madness!

I've searched and found a few threads, none with a definitive answer. I have installed every update you can find for Ubuntu to this date 6/17/08. At some point one of the updates broke Evolution. Now, every time I launch Evolution per Ubuntu session, I'm asked for a password to unlock the keyring. So basically, I'm typing my Ubuntu password to get to checking email, even though I set up my account to remember my email password so I don't get bothered.

I made my peace a long time ago with having to type a root or sudo password to do administrative tasks on Linux. But being forced to type a password to check email is insane! I've used MS Outlook (as in Office Outlook not Outlook Express) for six years, always with the email account configured to remember my password so I don't get asked again. Guess what? I've never, ever gotten my email account hacked, so there is no excuse for Evolution's latest bureaucratic paranoia.

Please, please, PLEASE help me make it stop. I'm close to deleting Ubuntu and re-embrace XP as my one and only OS, because of this issue.

I found with my 64 bit, version 8.04, that turning off auto-login 'solved' the keyring annoyance.

Unacceptable. That's trading one bureaucracy for another.

It isn't. Ubuntu 8.04 had already been a downgrade in usability when compared to Ubuntu 7.10. You'd expect updates to make things better, not to make 'em worse like with this de-Evolution update. Too bad I was trying another distro on another PC as a potential replacement for Ubuntu and when I thought I had my dream setup, in came some Gnome updates that let my Nautilus unable to see my NTFS partitions even though the fstab file was unchanged. So it's nothing "personal" against Ubuntu. Recent Linux distro releases have been more of beta quality than the betas they once were and less usable than releases from one year ago.

I'm done with Linux. Back to a Windows-only world until I can buy a Mac.
