Good to hear about this. Let me know if there's anything that LEAP can do to help this along. I can create a mailman list if you want one dedicated to the Orlando 2009 event.

That'll be my first ever "Linux show." What can a first-timer expect? Is there a web site for more info (when and where, host hotel, nearby campground - LOL, cheaper than a hotel room)?

Thanks,
Robin

http://www.floridalinuxshow.com/ is the main link for the show, where you can find out more information such as who the speakers and exhibitors will be. Florida Team will have a booth where we can represent Ubuntu Project and LoCo's and let other attendee's know about the team and how they can get involved. I think the venue is still being negotiated by Rod Sharp the Director. I actually saw him over last weekend, but he didn't mention any updates to me.

There are usually about 20-25 exhibitor booths. Since this will be the first time in Orlando I am not sure how many speakers or presentations will be going on simultaneously. I can tell you that the T-shirt Bordello crew will be there, so if you want to get some nice gear they were offering some dynamite specials in Jacksonville.

There are usually goodie bags that include a couple of new issues of Linux Magazines. Other vendors have been known to give out t-shirts, Thumb Drives, and other cool swag. As I learn more I will try and give updates.

Hope this helps a bit,

Chris Crisafulli

Yes, that link was very helpful, thanks! I didn't see a "register" button, so I guess you can just get a ticket at the door?

Also, I followed a link to the nearest Linux Users Group just to see what a LUG is, and I still don't really know. Is anyone here a LUG member and what do they do?

Just curious,
Robin

I might be able to attend this. I have yet to have gone to a meet yet, however Orlando might be close enough

Last weekend we had a Jaunty Release Party held at the Panera off of Vineland in Orlando. On either June 6th or the 13th... Have to make my mind up soon, I will be hosting a Jaunty release/install party iin Rockledge.

There are two main places you can check to find out more info for the team and events: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FloridaTeam/GetInvolved & https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FloridaTeam/Projects.

Also, feel free to stop in the IRC channel @ #ubuntu-us-fl.

Hopefully we'll get to see you guys at some of the events!

Talk with you soon,

Chris C.

Update, I have had some problems with my old forum account Chriscri, so I can't log to change the original post, but it's important to note that the Actual Date has been changed to October 24, 2009.

Just a suggestion, but... when I first got Ubuntu and saw how awesome it is, I wanted to get involved but didn't really know how. I hung out in the Ubuntu forums and found my way to this one (Florida LoCo). I checked for new posts right here for a couple of weeks, to see if there were any signs of life before I would jump in, rather than "sign up" for something that was apparently going nowhere.

Right here is where stuff should be posted, even if it duplicates stuff in the Wiki and team site. Because this forum is kinda sorta the "gateway" from Ubuntu Forums to the team site and Wiki. If this forum is inactive, then it may appear to a newbie as though the Florida team is inactive.

Just an idea... the forum's right here, and folks who don't know about the other less accessible forums will look here first, coming from the Ubuntu forums.

Nice IRC meeting tonight by the way. Thanks!
