Unhappy about forum limitations. I just lost a week in preparing a post.

The forum limit for images in a post is ridiculous. I have just lost a week of preparing a big post for the tutorials and tips section. I am certain this post would have been useful for many. It might even have been stickied in that sub-forum. The images are not hosted on the Ubuntuforums server and I do not see how this could be a problem for the server.Even if you want to limit images, I would highly appreciate the limit being higher in the tutorials and tips section.

The awesomeness of my thread, in my opinion cannot be judged by its title only. The images are essential for my thread to be valid. For this reason, I refuse to answer any questions about what my thread is about.

I hope that the tutorials and tips section's limitations are altered soon. When and if this occurs, I shall post my thread which I believe will benefit many. It is not my intension to let my article remain on my hard-drive doing nothing, but circumstances imply that this is currently the case. I shall wait as long as needed, with my articled ready for when it is possible to post it.

The limits exist because we are limited in server storage space. I would appreciate being able to raise them, but circumstances beyond our control prevent doing so. If/when we are able to upgrade our system, we may reconsider.

I can't stop laughing about this. I refuse to say why.

I hope that your article is posted soon, perhaps using an off-site dedicated image host that permits hotlinking (e.g. Flickr, etc.). It is not my intention to prevent you from posting, but rather to see that our site is up and running. Having size limits on attachments and images is a part of performing this task. If this causes the article to remain on your hard drive, it will be a bummer. If you feel you must wait to post it until those limits are changed, I predict the article will be grossly outdated by the time you feel our site it worthy. Perhaps you would like to post it on a personal blog in the meantime?

You can close this thread and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9248176this thread.

I will be working on a solution as mentioned in the linked thread and will post when I am ready.

Only you and I and other admins may post here, so this thread doesn't need to be closed. However, I will close the other for you.

I would do the same in your place. But I have my reasons, let's just say its a case of seeing is believing.

    Hotlinking
I think you misunderstand me, I am hotlinking to the images hosted on imageshack. The forum does not allow placing images from another source , so this is not a potential server issue.

    Outdated.
    I agree this could happen.

Edit2: The outdated article can be updated for feature.

    Test.

Actually, we do allow it and have from the beginning.

Use this button while composing and enter the URL of your image.

Please try not to link to images that are too terribly big, though. Readers don't often appreciate that. In that case, link to a small thumbnail and make it clickable to go to the large version.

Split the article into two or more posts, as I did here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=1032102

Large images are frustrating for those with bandwidth limitations, slow internet connections, and/or small screens (netbooks and other mobile devices).

Please use hot linked thumbnails , here is an example :

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...77&postcount=5

The images are there , click the thumbnails =)

The other option is to use attachments.

IMO large images detract from the content of the tutorial, and most of the time make it more difficult to read.

With "modern" web design you must consider an ever wide range of users and devices and large images are less then ideal (IMO) on these forums.
There are two mistakes one can make along the road to truth...not going all the way, and not starting.

Tutorials and tips section has to be moderator approved for it to appear as a post. So I won't see my post and will thus be unable to post the second.

As I stated, I believe I will be able to post this and I am presently working out a method.
