This worked for me....but how do you make gdm permanent?
Ubuntu is computer speak for defenestration
I have a Intel HD4000 also. and recently have been experiencing this issue. Never before have I had this issue before. Anyone know what causes it?
It just suddenly started happening.............???
Also I haven't managed to fix it yet
Still no fix for this problem in 13.04?
Bug 1070150 has existed for ages about this. In the last few days that bug was marked as "fix released" although as the last comment 52 says, there is no comment or detail about what was fixed etc.
I have this Bug also on my T410 with Intel Graphics and M4 SSD.
Seems there is no fix for this Bug so far, only Workarounds?!
Since I had subscribed to this thread,
I glanced through some of the original posts. There may be at least two different problems mixed in here maybe. The original was when it would boot up into low resolution. Then some point the problem with the lightdm booting up to a blank screen with blinking cursor. For what it's worth, I have actually dealt with both of them.
Right now I am on the 13.04. I can say on my big computer, it installed without a hitch except for the standard battle the Nvidia driver install process. On the Lenovo T500 with SSD I do get the blank screen with blink cursor. I did this suggestion and set it to a 1 second delay and fixed the problem. Perhaps this has already been mentioned... For what it's worth.

For me it seems that Update to 13.04 solved the Problem so far on my T410 with Crucial m4 SSD
Failure is back again here in 13.04
