Install Hardy over the old one. I'm not sure you can save your old /home. Settings might be different.

thats the problem - i do not want x64 hardy. x64 is still hard for me to use.
Plus I want a shared partition and I want to resize my current dominating windows partition.
(Currently 80 GB Windows and 40 GB ubuntu x64 to New 60 GB Ubuntu Hardy, 20 shared, 40 gb Windows)
Can Hardy do that?
