Hi there,

I'm a little confused...

What does this tool do? - Install ubuntu aside of windows? - like a dualboot solution?

Will a "clean" installation be available? - Install from windows, save all settings from email apps, etc... Install ubuntu, boot into ubuntu, and remove windows?

I would love such a tool, since I use a lot of time taking backup of all these data manually, and restoring them into an ubuntu-installation. (We do this for free in our techshop! - So streamlining this procedure would be GREAT!)

Yes, without any need to modifying disk partitions. But it does not import any file (yet).

So maybe this project can be forked, to serve as a REAL migration tool?
- What I would like to see, is an application to run on Windows, that would backup everything, and burn/copy it to another location!

I was wondering if you can install the windows migration tool. I mean, from what I've read and understand the tool seems to only be on the live-cd and only available if you do a dual-boot.

My question is: "can I use the migration tool if I already have a dual-boot system and have upgraded to feisty?" [from a previous version]

Ubuntu LiveCD includes the migration assistant

Wubi will also include the migration assistant but by default it will only copy the settings, not the files. You can copy them manually.

PS When trying a new OS, it is always convenient to keep the old one around for a while. Then once you know what you want and what you need and you know pros and cons of each OS, you may decide to trash the old one.

That would earn the name "migration" !

An app than could copy all settings/files to a configured target (maybe an external HDD?) and then install (K)ubuntu, and copy those things back, would be really cool!
