    It's 3.7.0-7-generic.

Other than that, this mini->UGR installation is working fine...
Same here, I just chalked it up to early dev borked artwork

Normally I would to, but usually when that 'x' is there is says 'disconnected' - I've never seen 'unmanaged' before, and wonder if some piece of plumbing wasn't brought in by u-g-r.

But hey, as long as it works...

Isn't it unmanaged if You take control over it through ifupdown by entering appropriate lines in /etc/network/interfaces and/or in NM config file...?
It was like that since couple of releases ago...
At my place it is umnanaged (almost) all the time...

I guess it means that the wired network is unmanaged by Network Manager which does not need or use the interfaces file. I think that putting anything in /etc/network/interfaces except

    # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)
    auto lo
    iface lo inet loopback
    will interfere with Network manager.

I do not have this issue on my Gnome Remix. Try seeing what is in the interfaces file.

    Regards.

Ah, my interfaces file had, in addition to the lines you mentioned, the following:

    # The primary network interface
    auto eth0
    iface eth0 inet dhcp

I commented it out, rebooted, and no more little 'x' in the icon. Live and learn!

    Thanks for the tip...

Ditto. I wonder if this is just a mini.iso thing?

I expect it is - the mini.iso isn't counting on any particular DE being installed with its Network Managers and such, and is not worrying about any indicators in some panel...

I seem to have anthropomorphized the mini.iso. I really shouldn't - she hates when I do that...

It might but it doesn't have to, depending of ifupdown settings in NM config file...

Here from the mini.iso install, - while I set up wireless to do the install afterwards it was as seen 'unmanaged'.
Even though wireless would work the g-c-c panel showed nothing & was basically worthless, certainly if wanting to connect to another wireless access.

    Best fixed here by -
    sudo nano /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
    and editing false to true

    [ifupdown]
    managed=true

    Then
    sudo /etc/init.d/network-manager restart

    brought back as expected
