Nice! Looks a lot like xfce4 (but i'll stick with xfce4 hehe)

Finally, a gnome fork to achieve a 'traditional' desktop layout that makes sense.
For what I understood, it's based on the gnome classic components that were not so long ago ported to GTK3. Those components that then the gnome devs dropped cause "it's was too much hassle to maintain".
If they maintain it, add features every now and then, and keep everything compatible with the rest of gnome3... it's a winner.

Just for clarification, it looks as if it's not a gnome 2 fork. Rather, it's a fork of Gnome Classic, i.e. "fallback," that is supposed to work like Gnome 2.
Seems like a cool idea as I don't really take to cinnamon. Nonetheless they'll have to compete with what Elementary is doing as that project is gaining a lot of enthusisasm.
No real surprise, but I wonder if they'll stick with Debian packages or switch to PiSi as previously mentioned
Regardless, for those who totally reject Unity and/or Gnome Shell, I'm sticking with Precise using this DE until these new forks mature
Intel ® P4 Extreme Edition 3.4 (Gallatin) || DFI ® LanParty PRO875B rev B1
Crucial ® Ballistix Tracer PC4000 1GB || Mountain Mods U2-UFO Opti-1203
XFX 7600GT 560M AGP (PV-T73A-UDF3) || Corsair HX520W Modular PSU
Funny you should mention that...
Since I switched to the Gnome3 Staging PPA, I can't customize Unity -- can't stand to run with the default icon set, etc -- can't stand to look at it -- gets the gag reflex going, after a few minutes. So, I more or less quit using Unity, for now.
I've grown very comfortable with Gnome-Shell, now that the choice is beauty (GS) or the beast (Unity).
That said, my fallback install is Ubu 10.10 which, of course, is now orphaned. I *need* to find a replacement.
Thus, while I haven't totally rejected Unity and/or Gnome-Shell, I need something, for when Unity/GS blows-up (and for testing Conky scripts).
A Gnome2/GTK3 fork sounds very compelling...

This is very nice indeed...I'm looking forward as to how this progresses.

Over time, as both Unity and Gnome Shell have improved I've become more tolerant of both, but Ikey is definitely helping to save the classic desktop paradigm and keeping it modern at the same time--kudos to him
