The Bamboo Touch works not on Lucid
The Bamboo Touch works not on Lucid
maybe this could help?

According to what I understand, if you are installing Lucid, it is a beta or alpha. Some things aren't finished. It isn't that it doesn't work, I believe something it actually relies on isn't yet supported. I did actually try to upgrade to Lucid [just to see what would happen] and MANY things were broken before being able to install the things that would get a) my wireless nic card working b) Wacom tablet...
So, if tablet usage is important, I would stick with Jaunty or Karmic for the time being.
I installed Lucid about a month or two ago. Things may have changed since then. If anybody is using Lucid and has a CTH-460 model Wacom tablet working, please post with setup details.

Yes, I'm not trying to be mean or ugly or anything. I'm just commenting that your response to a specific question seemed to veer off target.
Yes, that sounds like a good suggestion in case original post isn't understood:

As I said before, not trying to be mean or ugly, just commenting that your response seemed off target from the question. Otherwise, alot of the points you made were valid, just NOT answers to the question posed. Just as an example, if I asked how many spots does a leopard have and you responded that leopards live on every continent except Australia, you are technically correct, but you did not respond to the given question.
So, please take no offense from my comment, it was not intended. When I answer somebody's question I try to be to the point and concise.
As far as your previous question, following the next quotation is one definite possible solution [it would solve your problem depending on whether you actually need touch enabled] and the other solution you can try.
OK, I think I can help you with your problem. if you do this commandyou will see that there are MANY devices listed. These are the handles to the other things, like touch. You can try your MMonitor command with others of these [i.e. in replace ofWacom_bamboo_craft_pen0 etc]. Also, scrolling a few pages back, you will find a post by me that will be helpful in instructing you how to disable touch altogether. Hopefully one of these methods will prove useful.Code:xsetwacom list
Either way, your results would be interesting to hear as I'm sure there are lots of artists with multi-monitor setups using wacom tablets.
The source code that is being used in Lucid is different than what is in Karmic. A decision was made to rebuild the source for Xorg 1.7. The other change is that the kernel module source and the Xorg source are now separated. From what I can see, the kernel module is not up to date for the Pen and Touch but I have not checked the xorg source yet. When I have some time, I will try to see if we can get the kernel module patched up so that we can get the device to work again.
Hi @ianni67, it sounds like your setup is similar to mine. The exceptions: I don't rotate one of my screens, and I only have a Bamboo pen (not pen and touch). My graphics card is also Nvidia.
Could I please ask you about your xinerama setup? I can't localize my stylus pointer to one screen - it just ignores that command completely. I'm wondering whether it's because I have xinerama disabled and should be using it.
Would you mind having a look in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and telling me if there's any reference to xinerama there? The relevant lines in mine are:
so it looks like I have xinerama disabled but TwinView enabled.Code:Section "ServerFlags" Option "Xinerama" "0" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Device0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 Option "TwinView" "1" Option "metamodes" "DFP-0: nvidia-auto-select +0+0, DFP-1: nvidia-auto-select +1920+0" SubSection "Display" Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection
Thanks for your help with this.
Hi @texaswriter, thanks again for your suggestions.
What is the command/setting for the touch please? Perhaps I can use a similar setting on my Bamboo Pen?
Yes, I've noticed that the names depend on the .fdi in use. I check the device names before I use the command - and if I get them wrong it throws an error anyway - so that's not the problem. Also, be aware that xsetwacom list will show the device names. Just double check that you are using your command with the correct device name.
Anyone else with any ideas here? It's not an annoying little problem, I really can't use my Bamboo Pen as it stands The horizontal hypersensitivity and unnatural ratio makes it practically useless. Surely someone must know how to prevent the stylus mapping to the *entirety* of a dual screen setup?!
Thanks all.
The xinerama and the twinview extensions are quite different in behaviour.
I did not try recently the twinview mode so I cannot tell you how to make it work with the Bamboo.
You might try my configuration. Just keep in mind that my monitor is rotated so in my configuration there are a couple of commands to re-align the two monitors.
Here is my xorg.conf:
Sorry for posting this long file but I hope to make things clearer.Code:Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "Unknown" ModelName "QBL QB19F-4WLH-B" HorizSync 30.0 - 83.0 VertRefresh 50.0 - 76.0 Option "DPMS" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor1" VendorName "Unknown" ModelName "Samsung SyncMaster" HorizSync 30.0 - 81.0 VertRefresh 56.0 - 75.0 EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Configured Screen Device" Device "Configured Video Device" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Virtual 2880 900 EndSubSection EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Device0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 Option "RandRRotation" "true" Option "TwinView" "0" Option "metamodes" "DFP: nvidia-auto-select +0+0" SubSection "Display" Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen1" Device "Device1" Monitor "Monitor1" DefaultDepth 24 Option "RandRRotation" "true" Option "Rotate" "CCW" Option "TwinView" "0" Option "metamodes" "CRT: nvidia-auto-select +0+0" SubSection "Display" Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection Section "Module" Load "glx" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "no" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" # generated from default EndSection Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" "Enable" EndSection Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Default Layout" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 665 Screen 1 "Screen1" 1440 0 InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" Option "Xinerama" "1" # Screen 1 "Screen1" RightOf "Screen0" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" Driver "nvidia" Option "NoLogo" "True" # Option "RandRRotation" "true" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" BoardName "GeForce 8400 GS" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" Screen 0 Driver "nvidia" Option "NoLogo" "True" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Device1" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" BoardName "GeForce 8400 GS" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" Screen 1 Driver "nvidia" Option "NoLogo" "True" EndSection Section "ServerFlags" Option "Xinerama" "1" Option "RenderAccel" "True" Option "DamageEvents" "True" Option "BackingStore" "True" # Removed Option "Xinerama" "0" EndSection
Please note also my ~/.xinitrc, containint a few configurations for the tablet:
I'm currently using the .fdi made by Favux (see:http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...&postcount=384) to get rid of the changing device names, but there are some problems with the touch which I will describe in my next post. The pen works perfectly.Code:xsetwacom set "eraser" TwinView "1" xsetwacom set "eraser" Screen_No "-1" xsetwacom set "stylus" TwinView "1" xsetwacom set "stylus" Screen_No "-1" xsetwacom set "pad" StripRDn "Button 5" xsetwacom set "pad" StripRUp "Button 4" xsetwacom set "pad" StripLDn "Button 5" xsetwacom set "pad" StripLUp "Button 4" xsetwacom set "pad" Button4 "Button 4" xsetwacom set "pad" Button3 "Button 3" xsetwacom set "pad" Button2 "Button 2" xsetwacom set "pad" Button1 "Button 1" xsetwacom set stylus MMonitor off xsetwacom set eraser MMonitor off # run the primary system script . /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc
I hope that this helps you.
@texaswriter:
Thank you for clarifying your previous post.
I fully understand your point. Again, I apologize for going somewhat off-topic.
My intension was to make clear the fact that what we get here is entirely volunteering work.
Now, back to the Bamboo: currently my pen is working perfectly with the configuration I posted above. My problem is that I really need also touch.
With my configuration, using the file .fdi (the one specific for Bamboo P & T) posted by Favux (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...&postcount=384), I obtain the following output from xinput --list (I removed the unrelevant entries):
Note that the "touch" device is of type TOUCHPAD, but should be "Wacom touchpad". So something goes wrong, probably with the .fdi file.Code:"pad" id=2 [XExtensionKeyboard] Type is Wacom Pad Num_keys is 248 Min_keycode is 8 Max_keycode is 255 Num_buttons is 8 Num_axes is 6 Mode is Relative Motion_buffer is 256 Axis 0 : Min_value is 0 Max_value is 480 Resolution is 2540 Axis 1 : Min_value is 0 Max_value is 320 Resolution is 2540 Axis 2 : Min_value is 0 Max_value is 1023 Resolution is 1 Axis 3 : Min_value is -1 Max_value is -1 Resolution is 0 Axis 4 : Min_value is -1 Max_value is -1 Resolution is 0 Axis 5 : Min_value is 0 Max_value is 71 Resolution is 1 "touch" id=5 [XExtensionPointer] Type is TOUCHPAD Num_buttons is 12 Num_axes is 2 Mode is Relative Motion_buffer is 256 Axis 0 : Min_value is 0 Max_value is 480 Resolution is 1 Axis 1 : Min_value is 0 Max_value is 320 Resolution is 1 "eraser" id=6 [XExtensionKeyboard] Type is Wacom Eraser Num_keys is 248 Min_keycode is 8 Max_keycode is 255 Num_buttons is 9 Num_axes is 6 Mode is Absolute Motion_buffer is 256 Axis 0 : Min_value is 0 Max_value is 14720 Resolution is 2540 Axis 1 : Min_value is 0 Max_value is 9200 Resolution is 2540 Axis 2 : Min_value is 0 Max_value is 1023 Resolution is 1 Axis 3 : Min_value is -64 Max_value is 63 Resolution is 1 Axis 4 : Min_value is -64 Max_value is 63 Resolution is 1 Axis 5 : Min_value is 0 Max_value is 1023 Resolution is 1 "stylus" id=10 [XExtensionKeyboard] Type is Wacom Stylus Num_keys is 248 Min_keycode is 8 Max_keycode is 255 Num_buttons is 9 Num_axes is 6 Mode is Absolute Motion_buffer is 256 Axis 0 : Min_value is 0 Max_value is 14720 Resolution is 2540 Axis 1 : Min_value is 0 Max_value is 9200 Resolution is 2540 Axis 2 : Min_value is 0 Max_value is 1023 Resolution is 1 Axis 3 : Min_value is -64 Max_value is 63 Resolution is 1 Axis 4 : Min_value is -64 Max_value is 63 Resolution is 1 Axis 5 : Min_value is 0 Max_value is 1023 Resolution is 1
Or, some other driver is capturing the touch and I cannot get rid of it.
If I launch the command:
The same command works perfectly with stylus and eraser.Code:ianni@goliath:~$ xsetwacom set touch MMonitor off X Error: 2 BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation) Error (22): WacomConfigSetRawParam: failed Set: Failed to set touch value for 'mmonitor'
Any help, please?
